Archbishop Villegas admitted meeting with Peter Joemel Advincula

In his counter-affidavit, Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas admitted that he met Peter Joemel “Bikoy” Advincula but denied being part of a plan to oust President Rodrigo Duterte.

Villegas said Advincula approached him when he was at the Jesuit Residence in Ateneo on April 24.

However, Advincula claimed that his meeting with Villegas was on Dec. 12, 2018.

But Villegas said on that date, he was at the Parish Church of Our Lady of the Rosary in Orani, Bataan where he was the homilist in a Thanksgiving Mass.

On the day and time, December 12, 2018 in the evening, that I allegedly met with some plotters to overthrow the government, I was in the parish church of Orani in Bataan to deliver the homily at the first Mass of a friend newly ordained priest,” he said.

As a mortal being like the rest of us, I have no capacity to be in two places at the same time.

Villegas said that “at no point did we discuss any plan to overthrow President Duterte, much less libel him or any person close to him.”

He also said that the meeting was brief, adding that it was part of his priestly ministry to give solace to those who are suffering. “We do not turn away anyone who approaches us seeking our blessing.

We welcome everyone, and try to lead them back to the path where they may find peace for their troubled souls,” he said.

On June, Advincula claimed meeting with Villegas, a certain Father Robert, Caloocan Bishop Pablo Virgilio David, and former Education Secretary Armin Luistro in separate sessions at universities.
