Back in 2011, Trillanes supports hero's burial for Marcos, changed his tuned in 2016

Did you know that back in 2011, Senator Antonio Trillanes IV supports the proposal to bury the late President Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Fort Bonifacio, according to an article of ABS-CBN News?

During an interview, Trillanes said the Philippine government has already the policy to give former presidents a hero's burial.

"We should not discriminate. It's either we do away with the policy or we craft a new one but we can never be selective. I won't mind actually. I'm not the overly sentimental type. E matagal na pong namatay yung tao. I don't think it really matters to anybody's interpretation of history kung saan siya nakalibing dahil sa akin ho, ano, in the future kung kunyari itong si former president [Gloria Macapagal Arroyo] e ililibing at pinagdedebatehan kung san ililibing, sa akin bahala sila kung san nila ililibing," he said.

"In the future, kahit si GMA ilagay, ilibing dyan, I wouldn't mind," he added.

Trillanes also said the Libingan ng mga Bayani was established as a final resting place for Filipino soldiers.

"The fact is naging sundalo ho si former President Marcos and that place is also reserved for soldiers. He has served this country and hindi ho ma-ne-negate yun ng mga activities, which actually is still subjective for some," he said.

Trillanes also criticized former Vice-President Jejomar Binay for recommending only military honors for Marcos in his home province of Ilocos Norte, instead of a hero's burial.

"I believe that the recommendation of Vice-President Binay is a cop-out. It's just pleasing people. It is not doing the right thing. It's neither here nor there," he said.

However, he changed his tuned in 2016, when Rodrigo Duterte became the Philippine President.

In a GMA News Online article, Trillanes noted that not all past Philippine presidents are buried at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.

"I believe it is a divisive issue. Hindi nila kailangan ng ganyang issue na mababawasan yung kanilang political capital. It's a very sensitive issue. Marami ang talagang tinamaan na personal sa issue na yan kay Marcos. I would advise against it," he said.

"Yung pagpapalibing mismo ang magre-re-open ng mga wounds na yun. May mga tao kasing naging biktima, mga na-torture, may mga talagang naghirap noong panahon na yun. Hindi sila magmu-move on. Lalo silang maiinsulto at masasaktan," Trillanes said.

Marcos was buried at the Libingan ng mga Bayani with full military honors on November 18, 2016.
