349 officials are backing up the NPA – DILG

The Department of the Interior and Local Government has recently dropped a bomb, declaring that there are some government officials who are allegedly funding members of the New People’s Army (NPA).

DILG Secretary Eduardo Año has announced that they carry a list of 349 names of these people who are allegedly giving their support to the rebels.

According to Año, these government officials provide the funds through extortion activities, or through permit-to-campaign fees.

Money for the rebels

Año has revealed to the public that the amount of money the rebels have allegedly received from these government officials have amassed to around P195.5 million.

He adds that this money has been taken from different extortion activities against politicians and that this has been going on since 2016.

We now have a watchlist. We know you. So if you are supporting communist rebels in any way, you ascertain yourself as a supporter of terrorism and an enemy of the state, you establish yourself as an accomplice to their cause,” said Año.

According to the list that the DILG allegedly has, there are 11 governors, 5 vice governors, 10 provincial board members, 55 mayors, 21 vice mayors, 41 councilors, 126 village captains, 50 village councilors, and 8 other village officials who are on the list. Other that that, there are also 11 former officials local government units, 10 incumbent congressmen, and a former congressman.

Año did not name this people but did say that this list that they have only shows how the extortion of politicians happen to start in the community level.

He adds that if people know of political candidates who back rebels, they should not vote them into power.
